WASHINGTON PARK

WAYFINDING & SIGNAGE
Brand experience and garage wayfinding system for the Washington Park garage creates connection to the park above.

At the heart of Over-the-Rhine in Cincinnati is Washington Park. The park hosts concerts, movie screenings, flea and art markets, and more and is a neighborhood hot spot. With so much traffic, the park needed a well thought out parking system that was easy to navigate.

BHDP asked us to design a brand experience and garage wayfinding system for the Washington Park garage located underneath the park. We considered the entire parking experience from entrance to exit. Our intention was to give people a sense of place despite being underground. We wanted to create connections with the city above and an easy way to remember where they left their car.

We used full floods of intense color to signal where the pedestrian circulation is above. Verbal descriptors help visitors select the shortest path to their surface destination and symbolic markers help people retrace those same paths home. The symbols relate to iconic environmental ornaments and silhouettes found when emerging from the stairs to the park above.

The garage wayfinding system works at both the pedestrian and vehicle scales. The final result is modern, attractive, and reinforces the connection between the urban fabric above and the service area below.

EASTERN KENTUCKY SCIENCE CENTER

BRAND IDENTITY | EGD | EXHIBIT DESIGN
Exhibit design for Eastern Kentucky Science Center is flexible, dynamic and exciting.
The East Kentucky Science Center and Varia Planetarium serves as a hub of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in eastern Kentucky. The facility is located on the Big Sandy Community and Technical College’s Prestonsburg campus. The center offers an exhibit hall with hands-on STEM activities and visuals, along with the Varia Planetarium - a 40-foot dome with a Spitz Sci-Dome projection system, the state's only GOTO Star Projector, and a laser light music show system.
